Tom Reichert selected for UGA Athletic Association professorship
Tom Reichert, head of the advertising and public relations department in the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been named the inaugural UGA Athletic Association Professor in Advertising Information. The professorship supports the academic mission of the university and recognizes Reichert for his contributions to the field.

New York Philharmonic’s Philip Smith to join UGA trumpet faculty
Philip Smith, currently the principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, will soon be moving South to join the faculty of the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music. Smith will be named the William F. and Pamela P. Prokasy Professor in the Arts within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, pending approval by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia.

New director named for UGA Gwinnett Campus
Laura Crawley has been named the new director for the University of Georgia Gwinnett Campus. Crawley, who has served as director of the Executive MBA Program in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University since 2009, will succeed Ruth Bettandorff, who retired in September.

UGA Division of Student Affairs works to strengthen academic partnerships
Sylvia M. Hutchinson, a professor emerita, has been named director of academic partnerships and initiatives at the University of Georgia. She will join the Division of Student Affairs staff to coordinate a new strategic priority to formalize and strengthen partnerships with campus academic units, according to an announcement by Victor K. UGA professor to chair NIH proposal review committee
Rick Tarleton, University of Georgia Distinguished Research Professor of Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases, has been invited to chair the Immunity and Host Defense Study Section of the National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review. Study section members are scientists in that field who review scientific grant proposals submitted to the NIH for funding. The two-year appointment is effective July 1.
