EcoFocus Film Festival brings documentary ‘Trashed’ to Athens Nov. 12
EcoFocus Film Festival, an initiative of the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology, will present a special screening of the new documentary film "Trashed" on Nov. 12 at Ciné in downtown Athens, the third and final screening of its fall film series.

Skidaway open house 92 percent ‘landfill-free’
The effort to make Skidaway Marine Science Day a ‘landfill-free' event was largely successful, according to event organizers. Held on the campus of the University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, the annual open house attracted nearly 2,000 visitors on Saturday, Oct. 26, but generated only nine pounds of unrecyclable trash. The event organizers used recycling and composting bins to collect and recycle materials in an attempt to reduce the stream of trash ultimately headed to a landfill.

UGA and Clarke County School District launch Experience UGA partnership
The University of Georgia and the Clarke County School District have launched Experience UGA, a new partnership that aims to bring every Clarke County student to UGA's campus for an annual field trip and opportunity to experience learning on a college campus, explore college options and interact with UGA students.

Goats to help UGA students learn about environmental responsibility
The University of Georgia's semi-resident goat herd, the Tanyard Creek Chew Crew, has returned to the area near the Hull Street Parking Deck, to dine on kudzu, English ivy, privet, and other non-native plants until the beginning of Thanksgiving Break. The goats also will be used in a number of university courses to help students learn about environmental responsibility, including invasive plant species, water quality and plant and animal health.

Private-public partnership to grow local agriculture, economy in Fulton County
A diverse agricultural hub is thriving just minutes from downtown Atlanta in the area surrounding the city of Chattahoochee Hills. To help with the growth, University of Georgia Extension recently developed a new position for a Fulton County agriculture and natural resources agent.

The University of Georgia College of Environment and Design's Jackson Street Building has received LEED Gold Certification. The building is the first historic building on campus to earn the designation.
