UGA cancer researchers showcase work for NIH director
University of Georgia cancer research was one of several human health projects that took the spotlight recently when Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, and Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) heard reports by scientists and faculty from UGA, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University and Emory University.

NBC’s Al Roker to give rescheduled Holmes-Hunter Lecture April 25
The University of Georgia's 2013 Holmes-Hunter Lecture has been rescheduled for April 25 at 2:30 p.m. in the UGA Chapel. Originally slated for Feb. 8, the talk featuring NBC's "Today" show weatherman Al Roker was postposed due to severe weather conditions in the Northeast, which prevented Roker's travel to Georgia.

UGA to hold a reception honoring President and Mrs. Adams
A reception honoring President Michael F. and Mary Adams for their service to the University of Georgia will be held April 24 from 4-6 p.m. in the Tate Student Center Grand Hall. This event is open to the public, and members of the university and Athens area communities are invited to attend.

UGA employees to be given a ‘parking holiday’ in May
The University of Georgia has announced plans for a "parking holiday" to be awarded to faculty and staff for the month of May. The one-time, one-month holiday is made possible by using parking profits from the Jason Aldean concert to be held April 13 in Sanford Stadium.

Saxby Chambliss to headline UGA’s spring undergraduate commencement
U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., will take the podium May 10 in Sanford Stadium for the University of Georgia's undergraduate Commencement. The spring ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. and will recognize Mary Frances Early, UGA's first African-American graduate, with an honorary doctor of laws degree.

UGA residence hall to be named in honor of former Gov. George D. Busbee
The East Campus Village on the University of Georgia's campus will soon have a new addition to its named residence halls. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted today to approve the naming of Building 1512 after the late Gov. George D. Busbee.

Tybee residents invited to participate in sea level rise, coastal flooding preparations
Tybee Island residents and municipal leaders will get an update on ways to plan for increased flooding due to sea level rise and more frequent and severe storm surges at a public meeting scheduled next month and facilitated by researchers from the University of Georgia.

South African journalist, publisher and DJ Ntone Edjabe to speak at UGA
Ntone Edjabe, founding editor of the pan-African literary and political journal Chimurenga, will speak on "Diagnosing the Chimurenga Chronic" Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. in the University of Georgia Chapel. The lecture is part of the Global Georgia Initiative, a series of lectures and conversations organized by the UGA Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts.

Experts from all of the Southeastern Conference's 14 universities joined with representatives from industry and government in Atlanta Feb. 10-12 at the inaugural SEC Symposium, a meeting designed to forge new collaborations among universities, and to share the research and innovation of SEC institutions with the outside world.
