  The University of Georgia Costa Rica recently was honored by GoAbroad.com with the 2013 Innovation in Sustainability Award at the NAFSA: Association of International Educators annual conference in St. Louis.

  UGA Hotel and Conference Center earns 2013 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence

  For the second consecutive year, the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education's UGA Hotel and Conference Center received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. The award, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor and is extended to qualifying businesses worldwide. Only the top-performing 10 percent of businesses listed on TripAdvisor receive this award.

  Athens’ architectural history to be subject of talk, book

  A book talk on "The Tangible Past of Athens, Georgia," a forthcoming title about local architectural history, will be held June 12 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 271 of the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries on the University of Georgia campus.

  The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will participate this summer in Blue Star Museums, a program that offers free admission and special discounts to all active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

  Mandela-era ambassador to South Africa to speak at UGA Chapel

  James A. Joseph, the U.S. ambassador to South Africa from 1995 to 1999, will speak May 16 at 4 p.m. in the UGA Chapel. His talk will be on "Leadership as a Way of Being: Reflections on Nelson Mandela, Servant Leadership and Personal Renewal."

  Legion Pool to open May 23 for summer season

  Legion Pool at the University of Georgia will open on May 23 for the summer season. Hours of operation are 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. daily through July 31, and 2-7 p.m. Aug. 1-8.

  Athens Beep Baseball team to host round-robin tournament April 27

  The Athens Timberwolves will host a Georgia Beep Baseball Association round-robin tournament with visiting teams from Atlanta, Augusta and Columbus at Smith Field, located at 1570 Epps Bridge Road, near Home Depot, April 27 beginning at 9 a.m.

  UGA to present art exhibition on ‘Reflections of the Latin American Natural Environment’

  The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute at the University of Georgia will present its first exhibition on "Reflections of the Latin American Natural Environment," a national juried exhibition of contemporary art, from April 22 to May 17 in its offices at 290 S. Hull St.

  UGA Bug Dawgs to host ‘The Beers and the Bees’ April 18

  The University of Georgia Bug Dawgs, a student group in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences' entomology department, will host "The Beers and the Bees" April 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Terrapin Beer Company, 265 Newton Bridge Road. Event participants will learn about the benefits of pollination and local bees.

  Campus Kitchen at UGA receives top student organization award

  Campus Kitchen at UGA was named the University of Georgia's "Organization of the Year" during the 12th Annual H. Gordon and Francis S. Davis Student Organization Achievement and Recognition Awards, given out April 10 at the Tate Student Center. The hunger relief student organization, launched in March 2011, also received an award for "Outstanding Service to the Community."

  Recycling Happy Hour to be held April 23 at UGA

  The University of Georgia Office of Sustainability and WUGA radio, along with the Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division, will host a Recycling Happy Hour on April 23 from 5-7 p.m. in the UGA intramural field parking lot off of College Station Road.

Greene's lecture on "The Literature of Fact and Why Good Writing Still Matters" is free and open to the public. A brief reception will follow.
