Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin to open UGA Terry Leadership Speaker Series
Atlanta's former mayor, Shirley Franklin, will be the inaugural speaker for the 2011-12 University of Georgia Terry Leadership Speaker Series. Her presentation will be Friday, Oct. 7 at 10:10 a.m. in room 101 of the Miller Learning Center.

Director of Colorado Geological Survey to lecture on UGA campus
Vince Matthews, director of the Colorado Geological Survey and state geologist of Colorado, will present a lecture titled "The Global Scramble for Natural Resources-Its Impact on America" on Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m. in room 200A of the geology-geography building on the University of Georgia campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

UGA dance presents Community Dance Day Celebration

Princes and princesses, romance and revenge in University Theatre’s Life Is A Dream
University Theatre will present a new adaptation of Calderón De La Barca's romantic, adventurous masterpiece of the Spanish golden age, Life Is A Dream. Adapted by director Marla Carlson and Ph.D. theatre candidate George Pate, Life is a Dream runs in the Cellar Theatre of the University of Georgia's Fine Arts Building Oct.11-16 at 8 p.m., with an additional 2:30 p.m. matinee on Oct. 16.

Date set for 2012 MLK Freedom Breakfast
The planning committee for the MLK Freedom Breakfast has announced the date for the 2012 event. With the theme "The Power of the Dream: Moving Forward with a Shared Vision," the ninth annual breakfast will be held Jan. 13 at 7:30 a.m. in the Grand Hall of the University of Georgia Tate Student Center.

Music education program, Marsh Madness, to reach 7,000 coastal Georgia children
Elementary students throughout Effingham, Chatham and Bryan Counties are preparing for a concert series with a theme close to home-the Georgia coast. Beginning Sept. 19, award-winning children's musician Roger Day will perform Marsh Madness, his new show featuring the plants and animals that live in and around the barrier islands of Georgia. Day will perform at nine area schools, along with the Backus Children's Hospital and the Trustees Theater in Savannah.

The month-long, nationally recognized commemoration will take place Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 and honors the contributions of Hispanic Americans while highlighting the diverse heritage and culture of Latin America.

UGA observatory open house features Cygnus’ Albireo
