Georgia Museum of Art to host free program for children this summer
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will host Art Adventures: Museum Mysteries, a free, interactive educational program designed for elementary-school-aged children this summer. The program will run through June and July and is ideal for groups of five or more such as day camps, day-care centers and community centers.

The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will participate in Slow Art Day April 27 at 2 p.m. with an Artful Conversation on Thornton Dial's large painting "Spirit of Grand Central Station: The Man That Helped the Handicapped."

Award-winning essayist to speak at The Georgia Review fifth annual Earth Day celebration
Nationally known environmental activist and award-winning writer Scott Russell Sanders will speak on "Near and Distant Bears" during The Georgia Review's fifth annual Earth Day program on April 22 at 7 p.m. in the Cecil B. Day Chapel at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. A reception will follow, with musical accompaniment by the eclectic Athens duo Hawk Proof Rooster.

Archival film screening to feature UGA artists
"Artists at Work: Abbott Pattison and Lamar Dodd," a program featuring archival footage and a panel discussion about two University of Georgia artists will be presented April 14 at 2 p.m. by the Georgia Museum of Art, the Lamar Dodd School of Art and the special collections libraries. The event will be held in the museum's M. Smith Griffith Auditorium and the program is free and open to the public.

Georgia Museum of Art to exhibit noted collection of haute couture
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will host the exhibition "Fashion Independent: The Original Style of Ann Bonfoey Taylor" June 1 to Sept. 14. Organized by Dennita Sewell, curator of fashion design at Phoenix Art Museum, the exhibition will feature the couture collection of Ann Bonfoey Taylor (1910-2007), an American tastemaker, and is the first major exhibition of fashion at GMOA.

UGA Performing Arts Center to present Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center will present the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in the second annual Arch Chamber Music Festival April 13 at 8 p.m. and April 14 at 3 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall. The Chamber Music Society will offer two different programs, performing music by Beethoven, Dvorák and Weber on April 13 and works by Beethoven, Kodály and Dvorák on April 14

Trailblazer for equity in the workplace, Lorena Weeks, featured in new PBS series
Lorena Weeks, who won a landmark sex discrimination case against Southern Bell Telephone Co. in 1969 and donated her papers to the University of Georgia Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies in 2010, has been chosen for inclusion in the new PBS Series on the Women's Movement, "Makers."

Irish poet Ciaran Carson to open Atlantic Archipelagos Research Project conference
The welcome reception to the 2013 Atlantic Archipelagos Research Project at the University of Georgia will feature a reading by poet and novelist Ciaran Carson of Belfast, Ireland. The April 10 reception in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries will begin at 7 p.m. The reading will take place in the building's auditorium.

UGA Performing Arts Center to present Neil Berg’s ‘Broadway Song and Dance’

Digital technology, ancient curses collide in University Theatre’s ‘Macbeth’
The University of Georgia Theatre will conclude its 2012-2013 season with a media-rich production of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" directed by David Saltz. The play will be performed April 11-12 and 17-20 at 8 p.m. and April 14 and 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre.

Collaborative UGA research project reveals surprising information about Orpheus sculpture
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will host a public lecture and discussion on the findings of an interdisciplinary research project on an ancient Greek Orpheus Relief thought to date from classical Rome that is now believed to be a relatively modern replica.
