Georgia Museum of Art ranked in the top 5 percent of museums in the country
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia was recently reaccredited by the American Alliance of Museums (formerly known as the American Association of Museums), an honor that less than 5 percent of U.S. museums receive. To celebrate this achievement, GMOA will be open to the public Oct. 22 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with an official announcement at 2 p.m. by Ford Bell, president of AAM and an ice cream social to follow. The event is free and open to the public.

The University of Georgia Opera Theater will present "The Tales of Hoffmann," Jacques Offenbach's supernatural tale of unrequited love, in a two-night presentation on Oct. 11 and 13 at 8 p.m. in the Hodgson Concert Hall.

University Press announces Flannery O’Connor Awards
Tom Kealey and Jacquelin Gorman have been named the winners of the 2012 University of Georgia Press' Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction. Kealey's collection, Thieves I've Known, and Gorman's collection, The Viewing Room, will be available from the UGA Press in fall 2013.

UGA Performing Arts Center presents Kopelman Quartet Oct. 7
The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center will present the Kopelman Quartet Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall. The performance is the 2012 Payne Memorial Concert of the Franklin College Chamber Music Series, which is named in honor of William Jackson Payne, the former dean of Franklin College who founded the Chamber Music Series. Admission to the concert is free; however, tickets are required.

‘Peering Into the Musical Brain’ unravels mysteries of musicians’ minds
The Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts will present "Peering Into the Musical Brain," a lecture reviewing years of musician-centered neurological studies, on Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Edge Recital Hall of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. The lecture, presented by Donald Hodges of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is free and open to the public.

Arvin Scott Quartet to perform at last concert of the UGA Sunflower Music Series season
The Arvin Scott Quartet will perform the last concert of this year's Sunflower Music Series at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. on the stage at the terraced Flower Garden. Local jazz musician Arvin Scott will perform an uplifting world beat and jazz performance with his quartet. Tickets are $15 and $5 for children ages 6-12.

Georgia Museum of Art to celebrate illustrator Jack Davis with fall exhibition
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will present the exhibition "Beyond the Bulldog: Jack Davis" from Nov. 3-Jan. 6. Organized by guest curator Patrick Dean, a cartoonist who sits on the board of the Jack Davis Foundation, the exhibition goes deeper into Davis' career than the sports and caricature work for which he is best known, focusing on his black-and-white drawings in particular.

Willson Center cinema roundtable to highlight careers in animation
The University of Georgia Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts will hold a cinema roundtable on "Animation, Art and Careers for UGA Students" Sept. 28 at 3:30 p.m. in room 148 of the Miller Learning Center. The discussion will be moderated by Richard Neupert, Wheatley Professor of the Arts and a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor of Theatre and Film Studies in the UGA Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

UGA music business program premieres new football fight song
A new fight song written for the University of Georgia football team makes its debut in Sanford Stadium this season, thanks to the UGA music business program in the Terry College of Business. “Go Dawgs (Sic ‘em Woof Woof Woof)” has been included in the regular pre-game rotation for all 2012 home games.

The celebration, nationally recognized Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, honors the contributions of Hispanic Americans in the U.S. while highlighting the diverse heritage and cultures of Latin America.
