UGA art student wins $15,000 Windgate Fellowship award
The University of North Carolina-Asheville's Center for Craft, Creativity and Design has awarded 10 graduating seniors each with $15,000 in the form of a Windgate Fellowship, including Rachel Columb from the University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art.

University Health Service to host Healthy Dawg Festival
The University of Georgia annual Healthy Dawg Festival will be held April 18 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the Tate Student Center Plaza. Sponsored by the University Health Center and its student groups, the Healthy Dawg Festival will offer games, activities, prizes, music, free food and drinks.

This year, 82 garden plots will be staked for use by residents of family and graduate housing at the University of Georgia. For more than 10 years, University Housing has tilled and prepared a community garden for residents to grow seasonal vegetables.

David Trasoff, an ethnomusicologist, musician and expert on the classical music of North India, has been named the Gordhan L. and Virginia B. "Jinx" Patel Distinguished Visiting Professor in Indian Music Arts at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music.

UGA listed among healthiest colleges in US
The University of Georgia ranked fifth in a recent survey of the healthiest colleges in the U.S. The university was one of 25 selected by Greatist, an online health and fitness information source, as a school that creates "the best environment for leading a fit, healthy and happy life," the site reads.

The University of Georgia Terry College of Business will commemorate its 100th year in business education this summer. The oldest business school in the South will honor its legacy during several annual events and will chronicle its history with interactive content online and in print.

Georgia Museum of Art, Willson Center to present lecture on Shakespeare
The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia in conjunction with UGA's Willson Center for Humanities and Arts will present "Pop Goes Shakespeare: Illustration, Adaptation and Appropriation in the Arden Shakespeare Covers, second series" April 19 at 4 p.m. in the museum's M. Smith Griffith Auditorium. Sujata Lyengar, an associate professor in the UGA English department, will be the guest lecturer. A reception will follow the presentation.

Glamour editor to speak at UGA Libraries
Cindi Leive, editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine and glamour.com, which together reach more than 15 million readers each month, will address "Magazines From Now On: What Works (and What Doesn't) in the Age of Twitter and Facebook" at the University of Georgia's 2012 Mingledorff-Lorimer Lecture. Sponsored by the UGA Libraries, the lecture will be held April 19 at 4 p.m. in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries auditorium. A reception will follow.

Inaugural MFA juried exhibition to be held at Aurum Studios
The University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art and Aurum Studios in downtown Athens will present the inaugural LDSOA/Aurum Studios Juried Exhibition and Sale April 19 from 6-8:30 p.m. at Aurum Studios, located at 125 E. Clayton St. The juried exhibition presents two-and three-dimensional artwork created by master of fine arts students. The opening, which includes a reception, is free; and the public is invited to attend.

Pulitzer Prize poet to read at ‘Georgia Review’ Earth Day
Natasha Trethewey, winner of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for poetry and a graduate of the University of Georgia, will read poems and prose at the fourth annual Georgia Review Earth Day program on April 18. The event, scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Day Chapel of the State Botanical Garden located at 2450 South Milledge Ave., will be followed by a patio reception featuring music by the Athens duo Hawk Proof Rooster. The event is free and open to the public.
