Grady announces 2013 fellowship inductees

Alvermann, Spangler named to Aderhold Professorships in College of Education
Two University of Georgia professors, Donna E. Alvermann and Denise A. Spangler, have been appointed to endowed faculty positions in the College of Education. The endowed positions are named for the late UGA President Omer Clyde Aderhold and his late daughter, Elizabeth (BeBe) Aderhold, who served as a faculty member in childhood education.T

College of Environment and Design’s Jackson Street Building awarded LEED certification
The University of Georgia College of Environment and Design's Jackson Street Building has received LEED Gold Certification. The building is the first historic building on campus to earn the designation.

UGA horn student wins top prize in international competition
University of Georgia doctor of musical arts student Lauren Hunt took first prize Sept. 1 in the International Horn Competition of America's university division. Hunt, who began her studies this fall in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, competed against 53 other hornists for the title.

Henry N. Young, formerly of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has joined the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy as the Kroger Professor in Community Pharmacy.

UGA experts on aging to advise Georgia’s dementia task force
Because Alzheimer's disease is considered a major public health priority, more than 40 states currently are involved in developing state government plans through various task forces. Dr. Toni P. Miles and Kerstin Gerst Emerson in the University of Georgia College of Public Health were invited to advise the newly organized Georgia Alzheimer's and Related Dementias Task Force.

UGA College of Environment and Design establishes student ambassador program
The University of Georgia College of Environment and Design has established a Student Ambassador program, which began this fall. The inaugural group of ambassadors is comprised of 12 diverse undergraduate students enrolled in the landscape architecture program who will be representing CED at events both on and off-campus for the academic year.

Lee Becker, a professor of journalism in University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, received the 2013 Paul J. Deutschmann Award for Excellence in Research from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication earlier this month.
