UGA Career Center to hold South Campus Event on Feb. 18

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia Career Center will hold its first-ever “Career Expo: A South Campus Event” on Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the concourse of Stegeman Coliseum. The expo was developed through a partnership with the Career Center, the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the Warnell School of Forest Resources and the College of Family and Consumer Sciences.

“The Career Expo is designed to highlight careers and internships in such science-related industries as engineering, food, nutrition, green, natural resources, forest resources, agriculture, environmental and poultry,” said Christie Sanders, career consultant for agricultural, environmental and forest resources at the Career Center. “Despite the poor economy, we have more than 50 companies registered to attend and are rapidly approaching capacity.”

“The South Campus Career Expo is also a great way to promote the educational opportunities in these three colleges; opportunities that many UGA students may not even realize are available at UGA,” added Cassandra Latimer, associate director and consultant for Family and Consumer Sciences.

All UGA students are welcome and are encouraged to come “dressed to impress,” ready to distribute their resumes and network with potential employers. The Warnell School will host “Career Week” prior to the event to provide students with an opportunity to hone their job search skills. Employers will be setting up interviews after the South Campus expo at the coliseum and the following day at the Career Center.

“We are very pleased that the university is hosting the South Campus Career Expo. This will be a wonderful opportunity for people to see the breadth of careers available to students majoring in disciplines on South Campus,” said David Knauft, associate dean in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. “It will also be a good time for prospective employers to meet some of the outstanding students in our colleges.”

Among the companies participating in the expo are Merial, Hormel, John Deere Landscapes, International Paper, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Wayne Farms, Weyerhaeuser, the Kroger Company, USDA and Buckhead Beef Company.
