UGA’s Grady College presents Peabody Award winners spring screenings

ATHENS, Ga. – This spring the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia will present a series of screenings of Peabody Award-winning programs in Athens. The screenings are free and open to the public.

Two 2002 Peabody Award winners, “My Father’s Camera” and “Still Life with Animated Dogs,” will be presented Tuesday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in the Seney-Stovall Chapel on Milledge Avenue. The total running time of the double feature is 89 minutes.

“My Father’s Camera” is an inventive piece that blends home movies with original production to explore the role of personal filmmaking in cinematic history.

“Still Life with Animated Dogs” illustrates the adventure of the endearing dogs that shared their owner’s 40-year journey from despair to wonder.

The screenings are part of an effort to bring Peabody Award-winning programs to the local and university community. Administered by the Grady College, the George Foster Peabody Awards are the highest honor in electronic media.

Additional screenings of 2003 winners are set for 7 to 9 p.m. April 6 and 20 at the Seney-Stovall Chapel.

The 2003 Peabody Award winners will be announced Wednesday, March 31, at Georgia Public Broadcasting in Atlanta.
