Athens, Ga. – The Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta Epsilon (KDE), an educational honor society based in the University of Georgia College of Education, has recognized several faculty, students and staff for special achievement during the past year.
Mary Kathryn Everitt, a lecturer in communication sciences and special education, received the outstanding faculty award. Gretchen Thomas, an instructor in educational psychology and instructional technology, and Helen Hall, a professor in workforce education, leadership and social foundations, received excellence in teaching awards.
Outstanding graduate assistant awards were given to Steve Havick and Todd Hawley, both doctoral students in elementary and social studies education.
Judy Allison, a clinic administrative secretary and Karen Myers, a senior administrative secretary, both in the communication sciences and special education department, and Thomas Stewart, an undergraduate student in occupational studies, received distinguished service awards.
Honorary memberships to KDE were awarded to Retta Shealey, the lead instructor for a program called TRAINING2BESAFE, Inc.; Betsy Arrington-Tsao, a coordinator in the Office of International Activities; and Norman Thomson, an associate professor of mathematics and science education.
KDE has a membership of about 500. This year’s officers included President Jennifer Coats, Vice President Jessica Beavers, Secretary Julie Bellezza, Treasurer and Webmaster Katie Kandalec-Bateman, Historians Katy Butler and Diedra Sellers, Parliamentarian Jamie Howell, and Publicity Chair Doug Harris. Council members are Jenni Kozel, Kameron Steiniger and Jennifer Yeomans. Advisors include Stacy Neuharth-Pritchett, an associate professor, and Kyungwha Lee, an assistant professor, both in elementary and social studies education.
KDE’s annual spring banquet and awards ceremony took place on April 16 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education.
