Expert on China and possible Asian power shift to speak on University of Georgia campus on March 10

Athens, Ga. – Dr. David Shambaugh, a recognized international expert on Chinese and Asian affairs, will speak on the University of Georgia campus on Thursday, March 10, from 3:30-5 p.m. in room 248 of the Student Learning Center.

Shambaugh’s presentation is entitled “Power Shift? China, the United States, and the Shifting Asian Order.” The presentation is open free to the public.

The event is sponsored by the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the School for Public and International Affairs, the Center for Asian Studies and a campus student group, CIN.

Shambaugh is professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University. He is also director of the China Policy Program in the Elliott School of International Affairs at GW. Before joining that university, he taught for eight years at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, where he also served as editor of The China Quarterly from 1991-1996.

He is a widely published author of many books, articles and book chapters. His newest study, Modernizing China’s Military, was published by the University of California Press in 2003. He has published articles in The New York Times, The Washington Post, the International Herald Tribune and many other places.
