2010 summer orientation leaders chosen by UGA's undergraduate admissions office

Athens, Ga. – A group of 12 University of Georgia undergraduates have been chosen by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to serve as orientation leaders for the new student orientation sessions to be held on campus in summer 2010.

The orientation leaders-one freshman, five sophomores, and six juniors-will be the first point of contact for incoming first-year and transfer students, serving as peer mentors to help them prepare for fall semester at UGA.The leaders share their own academic and campus experiences during small group meetings, panel discussions and other presentations. They also serve as an important resource for parents who may attend summer orientation.

In preparation for the upcoming orientation sessions, the new orientation leaders will undergo rigorous training this spring.Part of the training involves becoming familiar with all of UGA’s academic and extracurricular programs, as well as the student services available at UGA.

“We have picked a great group of students,” said Milly Gorman, associate director of admissions and director of new student orientation.”The orientation leaders will train very hard in preparation for imparting their wisdom and school spirit to the incoming students.”

Orientation leaders are selected based on demonstrated communication skills, leadership abilities and campus spirit.
