2014 EcoFocus Film Festival set for March 19-29 in Athens

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology announces its sixth annual EcoFocus Film Festival, to be held March 19-29 on the UGA Campus and at Ciné in downtown Athens.

The EcoFocus Film Festival features a rich selection of feature-length and short films highlighting a variety of urgent environmental issues. This year’s lineup includes screenings of award-winning documentaries that cover topics ranging from threats to coastal communities to the health risks of untested chemicals in everyday products.

Confirmed screenings at the festival include the films “More than Honey,” “Shored Up,” “DamNation,” “This Space Available,” “Population Boom,” “The Human Experiment,” “Into the Gyre” and “GMO OMG,” with more to be announced soon. Details of an EcoKids children’s event, planned for Sunday, March 23, also will be announced.

“I am so excited to bring these inspiring stories and viewpoints to the Athens community,” said Sara Beresford, director of EcoFocus. “Without this festival, Athens would miss out on these powerful independent films, and the diversity of voices and environmental challenges that they represent.”

The 2014 films delve into topics that will leave audiences motivated to take action and more aware of the reciprocal relationship between humans and their environment, according to Beresford. The festival will also feature special events including panel discussions, receptions and hands-on activities. As in previous years, the audience will vote on the winning films.

EcoFocus is supported by the Riverview Foundation, the UGA Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, the Odum School of Ecology and the UGA Office of Sustainability. It is made possible by the support of many individuals, organizations, foundations and sponsors from the Athens community and beyond.

More information on location and screening times will be released in late February.
