UGA's College of Veterinary Medicine to host 47th Annual Veterinary Conference & Alumni Weekend

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine will host its 47th Annual Veterinary Conference & Alumni Weekend on March 26-27 at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. All UGA CVM alumni, as well as any veterinarians interested in receiving continuing education credits, are invited to attend. In addition, honors will be awarded to distinguished alumni who have led accomplished careers in veterinary medicine.

 

The keynote speaker for the conference will be J. Stephen Shi, Esq., director of the UGA Office of Equal Opportunity and an adjunct professor in both the UGA School of Law and the Terry College’s business administration program.Shi’s talk will focus on “Legal Development in Animal Law.”

A variety of small and large animal sessions will be available for CE credits. The general and joint sessions will include:“Envenomations,” led by Dr. Jennifer Pittman (DVM ’05);“Pharmacovigilance,” or how medications used in general practice are monitored for safety and efficacy, presented by Dr. Tricia Burnett (DVM ’00); disaster preparedness and response, led by Dr. Paul Williams (DVM ’71); veterinary lessons learned from the battlefields of Iraq, led by Dr. Tim Loonam (DVM ’00); ethics and professionalism in the use of controlled substances, by Dr. Heather Lindell, of the UGA CVM.Other notable presenters include Dr. Susan Fubini (DVM ’80), on surgeries on food animals; Dr. Charlene Cook (DVM ’85), on field surgeries in large animals; Dr. Jennifer Adams (DVM ’85), on morbidity and mortality in large and small animals; Dr. Marc Havig (DVM ’00), on management of osteoarthritis; and Dr. Marc Rainbow (DVM ’00), on ophthalmic emergencies.
