Athens, Ga. - Counseling professionals and educators in area schools can learn how to integrate social justice, social media and social collaboration ideals when confronting diversity issues at the University of Georgia College of Education's eighth annual UGA Counseling and Diversity Conference on Feb. 15 at the University of Georgia Gwinnett campus in Lawrenceville.

Participants will explore diversity issues they face in their everyday practice in student affairs and counseling in both P-12 and higher education in an era of unprecedented sociological and technological changes.

The social media area of the workshop will focus on the effective use of interactive platforms as valid methods to communicate and disseminate information to all students. Social collaboration is a goal-oriented process as a conduit of change in the P-16 setting. Further, the social justice ideal is the ongoing process of valuing fairness and equity while understanding the dynamics of privilege and oppression, leading to acts of reflection, assessment, challenge or advocacy.

Registration is $49. The fee covers conference materials, continental breakfast, lunch and a refreshment break. The deadline to register is Feb. 8. Registration is limited to the first 100 participants. See www.coe.uga.edu/events/category/conference to register.
