Botanical Garden to host ‘Shakespeare’s Plants’ lecture

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia State Botanical Garden of Georgia will host a lecture titled “Shakespeare’s Plants” Sept. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Visitor Center and Conservatory Gardenside Room. Admission is free and open to the public.

Sujata Iyengar, a UGA English Professor and author of “Shakespeare’s Medical Language,” will speak about the various plants and flowers represented in William Shakespeare’s work. She will specifically focus on flowers and plants collected or mentioned by Perdita in “The Winter’s Tale” and Ophelia in “Hamlet.”

The lecture, which begins at 7:15 p.m., will be preceded by a reception hosted by the Athens Area Master Garden Association at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 706-542-6014 or see www.botgarden.uga.edu.
