Chandler to present Franklin Visiting Scholar lecture at UGA

Athens, Ga. – Mario André Chandler, an associate professor of Spanish at Oglethorpe University, will deliver the Franklin Visiting Scholar Lecture on the University of Georgia campus Oct. 8.

The event, which will be held at 4 p.m. in room 150 of the Miller Learning Center, is open free to the public. Chandler’s lecture is titled “Hispanic Sub-Saharan Africa: Equatorial Guinea in Origin, Complexity, Contribution and Diaspora.”

A reception will follow the event. There also will be a meet-and-greet reception for Chandler on Oct. 7 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Miller Learning Center North Tower, also open to the public.

Chandler, who earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Georgia, is a specialist in medieval and renaissance Spanish literatures and the relations between Spanish-speaking societies and the African diaspora.

Chandler’s visit is co-sponsored by the department of Romance Languages and the Office of Inclusion and Diversity Leadership in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
