Athens, Ga. - The USA Network's Characters Unite College Bus Tour will visit the University of Georgia on Feb. 10. The tour will be stationed in Reed Plaza between Memorial Hall and Sanford Stadium from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Characters Unite campaign aims to promote tolerance by addressing discrimination and prejudice. Inspired by USA Network's "Characters Welcome" branding, the campaign features various USA characters from popular television shows joining the movement by discouraging various forms of hate.
The campaign can be recognized by T-shirts bearing the words "I Won't Stand For ...". Examples from the Characters Unite website include topics such as racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, religious intolerance and bullying.
At the event, participants will have the opportunity to create their own "I Won't Stand for..." shirt and to take a photo for the Characters Unite gallery. Participants are also encouraged to tweet @charactersunite and use #IWontStandFor on social media.
The event is sponsored by the Student Government Association.
"With the arrival of the Character's Unite College Bus Tour coinciding with Black History Month, the occasion will provide an opportunity to commemorate achievements made for equality on our campus and encourage continual campus inclusion," said Alexsis Skeen, SGA press secretary.
