College editors convene at UGA’s Grady College for annual management seminar

Athens, Ga. – Sixty-four top college newspaper editors from 30 states will learn leadership and management skills July 22-27 at the 17th annual Management Seminar for College News Editors conducted by the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Sponsored by the Cox Institute for Newspaper Management Studies and the Grady College, the seminar will be led by almost 20 educators, advisers, editors, reporters and photographers.
Featured speakers include Frank LoMonte, executive director of the Student Press Law Center; Butch Ward, managing director of the Poynter Institute; Shawn McIntosh, deputy managing editor at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution; and Selwyn Crawford, metro team editor at the Dallas Morning News.
After three days of training at UGA, the seminar will conclude with a visit to CNN in Atlanta. Paul Crum, vice president of news operations for CNN/U.S., will moderate the session with Don Lemon, anchor for CNN Newsroom, and Lila King, participation director for CNN Digital.

The Grady College’s Cox Institute for Newspaper Management Studies provides and supports training to prepare students and professionals for management positions. The institute also sponsors applied research that addresses contemporary issues confronting the newspaper industry.
Established in 1915, the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication provides seven undergraduate majors, including advertising, broadcast news, magazines, newspapers, public relations, publication management and telecommunication arts. The college offers two graduate degrees and is home to the Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism and the Peabody Awards, considered the electronic broadcasting industry's most prestigious prize.
