Athens, Ga. - Several University of Georgia College of Education faculty members recently were recognized for their work or appointed to leadership positions in their fields.

Donna Alvermann, a Distinguished Research Professor in language and literacy education, has received the 2012 Computers in Reading Research Award from the International Reading Association. The award recognized her research and contributions in providing crucial insight into the role of computers in literacy education and specifically, her work in the area of adolescents and online literacies.

Jennifer Graff, an assistant professor in the department of language and literacy education, was a co-author of an article that recently received the 2012 Albert J. Harris Award from the International Reading Association. The article, "Addressing Summer Reading Setback Among Economically Disadvantaged Elementary Students," was published in the September 2010 issue of Reading Psychology.

Sheneka Williams, an assistant professor in the department of lifelong learning, educational administration and policy, was named associate director for policy and advocacy for the University Council for Educational Administration. UCEA is a consortium of higher education institutions committed to advancing the preparation and practice of educational leaders for the benefit of schools and children.
