Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Franklin College of Arts and Sciences department of dance will present its Spring Dance Concert 2014 April 10-12 at 8 p.m. and April 13 at 2:30 p.m. in the New Dance Theatre in the dance building on Sanford Drive.

Spring Dance Concert 2014 brings together faculty, guest choreographers and UGA undergraduate students, many of whom are completing their bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of arts or minors in dance. Choreographers have been rehearsing most pieces with the their dancers since early fall 2013.

With the assistance of Christopher Fleming in theatrical elements and lighting design, the works have been fully realized for the stage and integrated into an evening-long concert that includes both contemporary and classical repertoire.

The concert will premiere staged works by dance faculty Joan Buttram, featuring the UGA Ballet Ensemble; Rebecca Gose Enghauser; Daryl Foster; Alix Miller and Janet Robertson. The concert also will include a piano performance by Hugh Hodgson School of Music graduate student Youngmi Moon.

Spring Dance 2014 highlights include a choreographic premiere by Luis Piedra, an internationally recognized choreographer, dancer and director of Danza Abierta in Costa Rica. Piedra is a Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts Visiting Artist.

“The spring dance concert this year will offer a rich variety of dance styles, a banquet of dance flavors as well as some exciting music pieces in the program,” said Lisa Fusillo, professor and head of the department of dance. “Our students had a wonderful opportunity to work with Costa Rican choreographer Luis Piedra, a Willson Center Visiting Artist, dancer, teacher and company director, who has helped to shape contemporary dance in Costa Rica.”

Tickets are $16 for general admission and $10 for students, seniors and children ages six to 12. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office, by calling 706-542-4400 or online at www.pac.uga.edu.
