UGA’s Grady College hosts Digital News Bluejeans Workshop

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication will host the Digital News Bluejeans Workshop March 29 from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Room 412 at the college.

The workshop is open to alumni and members of the general public, and is created to provide helpful, practical information for improving coverage and digital news storytelling.

This year’s workshop includes the following topics and speakers:
Access and Legal Issues
• Richard Griffiths, senior editorial director, CNN
• Hollie Manheimer, executive director, Georgia First Amendment Foundation
• Mickey Osterreicker, legal counsel, National Press Photographers Association
• Welch Suggs, associate professor, Grady College

Multimedia Storytelling
• John Sutter, multimedia journalist, CNN Digital

Talent and Weather
• Samantha Mohr, meteorologist, CNN
• Heather Tesch, meteorologist

“We call this workshop ‘Bluejeans’ because we make a deliberate effort to make it informal,” said David Hazinski, associate professor of digital and broadcast news in the Grady College and coordinator of the event. “We try to deal with only things that will improve the work of journalists.”

The Bluejeans Workshop is sponsored by the Grady College, CNN and CNN Newsource. Registration is $35 prior to March 24, or $50 March 24 or after. The price includes lunch. Registration can be completed at www.grady.uga.edu/bluejeans.

“CNN and CNN Newsource support the program to allow us to keep costs down for participants as a service to their affiliates,” Hazinski said. “You can’t find anything close for this amount of money. CNN and the Grady College want to make the workshops available to as many people as possible.”

Participants are also encouraged to bring their demo reel for a personal critique from panelists and Grady College faculty during the final session of the workshop.
