Donors supply funds to repair UGA telescope; full viewing schedule restored

Athens, Ga. – Thanks to the generosity of several donors, the University of Georgia Observatory’s 24-inch telescope, which had been deemed unusable for the year, has been repaired and is again operational.

“We are delighted the donors have enabled the telescope to be repaired not just for the public nights but for the undergraduate instruction that uses it,” said Scott Shaw, professor of physics and astronomy.

While a limited schedule had been announced earlier, now a full schedule of monthly public nights will resume on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m. If it is cloudy, there will be a talk on “The Arecibo Observatory: a Pictorial History.”

Here is the schedule for the rest of the year. Lecture topics will be announced later.
