Early music concert ‘Love, Passion, Faith’ at UGA to feature guest tenor Mobley

Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Collegium Musicum, the early music ensemble in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will present a concert of music by baroque-era composers March 6 at 8 p.m. in the Ramsey Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center. The concert "Love, Passion, Faith" is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature countertenor Reginald Mobley, who is in residence at the school of music, as a guest artist. A longtime full member of Seraphic Fire, a twice Grammy-nominated professional vocal ensemble based in Miami, Mobley has appeared as a soloist in many of the masterworks including Haydn's "Theresienmesse," Mozart's "Requiem," Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" and Orff's "Carmina Burana."
At UGA, Mobley will perform a countertenor duet written by Handel, "Caro autor di mia doglia," and Vivaldi's "Stabat Mater," written for countertenor and strings.
"This joint concert by Reginald Mobley with Collegium Musicum will be a tour de force of music by some of the great composers of the Baroque period," said Philip Moody, assistant professor of conducting studies and director of Collegium Musicum. "The finale of the concert, ‘Musikalische Exequien' by Heinrich Schütz, makes this one evening of music not to be missed."
UGA Collegium Musicum is an early music ensemble that explores, prepares and performs literature of the baroque, medieval and renaissance eras. The ensemble is composed of vocalists and instrumentalists on both period and modern instruments and is open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as community members.
