Finalists chosen in search for new dean of UGA College of Education

Athens, Ga. – Four finalists have been chosen in a national search for a new dean of the University of Georgia College of Education. They will visit UGA over the next three weeks to meet with faculty, staff and students in the college and with university administrators.

The finalists, and the dates of their visits, are:

  • Steven R. Yussen, a professor and director of undergraduate studies and the Honors Program in the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota, April 29-30;
  • Marilyn Newhoff, dean of the College of Health and Human Services at San Diego State University, May 1-2;
  • Richard L. Hayes, dean of the College of Education at the University of South Alabama, May 5-6; and
  • Fayneese S. Miller, dean of the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont, May 8-9.

The new dean will succeed Louis Castenell, who stepped down as dean at the end of last year but remains on the education college faculty. Arthur Horne, a long-time professor in the college, is serving as interim dean.

The finalists were chosen by a search committee chaired by Laura D. Jolly, dean of UGA’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences.
