Athens, Ga. - Three finalists have been chosen in a national search for a new dean of the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences.They will visit campus in February and each will present a seminar open to the public.
The finalists and the dates of their seminars are:

  • Jay Whelan, department head and professor of nutrition at the University of Tennessee, where he also is administrative director of the Affymetrix Microarray Core Facility and JHB Animal Research Facility.He will present a seminar Feb. 14 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in 312 Dawson Hall.
  • Laurie Kramer, associate dean of academic programs and professor, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She will present a seminar Feb. 17 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Masters Hall of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.
  • Linda Fox, associate dean and professor, College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, Washington State University, and associate director, Washington State University Extension.She will present a seminar Feb. 21 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in 312 Dawson Hall.

The new dean will succeed Laura Jolly, who was named vice president for instruction at UGA last September. Anne Sweaney, a department head and longtime faculty member in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, is serving as interim dean.

The finalists were chosen by a search committee composed of faculty, staff, students and alumni from the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and chaired by Arthur Horne, dean of the College of Education.
