Media Advisory: Freedom Breakfast and reception for Early canceled

Athens, Ga. – The eighth annual Freedom Breakfast, featuring Mary Frances Early as the keynote speaker and scheduled for Friday, Jan. 14, has been canceled due to inclement weather. The breakfast will be rescheduled, and all ticket purchases for the Jan. 14 breakfast will be honored.

Questions about the breakfast may be directed to the Office of Institutional Diversity at 706/583-8195, when UGA reopens. Currently, the university is closed due to inclement weather. Daily updates are available online at www.uga.edu.

The Freedom Breakfast is sponsored by the University of Georgia, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Clarke County School District.

A community reception scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 13 honoring Early, the first African American to graduate from the University of Georgia, at J.J. Harris Elementary School also has been canceled and will be rescheduled in conjunction with the rescheduled Freedom Breakfast.

The reception is sponsored by the UGA College of Education and the Institute for African American Studies.
