Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Center for the Study of Global Issues will host the North Korea Institute Forum in Athens, March 2 - 6.

The North Korea Institute Forum will be a five-day, intensive seminar on North Korean politics, culture, social structure, domestic and foreign policy, history and economics. The goal of NKI is to raise the quality of information about North Korea among policymakers, academics, the business community and the media.

"Because there is growing interest in North Korea, especially with the advent of the Obama administration, NKI is timely and significant," explained Han Park, director of Globis, founder of the North Korea Institute, and professor of international affairs in the UGA School of Public and International Affairs.

"The kind of information and insight offered at this forum about North Korea is not available anywhere else."

The NKI Forum features five of the world's leading North Korea expert-scholars who will lead seminar classes and panel discussions designed to provide relevant education to those with an interest in North Korean affairs. NKI will publish an edited volume based on the contributions of these experts to the forum in an effort to make their information and knowledge of North Korea more widely available.

Considered one of the world's leading experts on North Korea, Park has traveled to North Korea over 40 times. Park has facilitated events aimed at resolving the North Korean nuclear crisis and improving relations between the two Koreas.

Registration for the North Korea Institute Forum is open to the public. For more information, see
