Athens, Ga. – Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honors society at the University of Georgia, will host a gubernatorial debate on Thursday, March 18 at 6 p.m. in the UGA Chapel. This event is free and open to the public.

Moderated by Charles S. Bullock, Richard B. Russell Professor of Political Science, the Democratic candidates will debate from 6-7:30 p.m. and Republican candidates from

8-9:30 p.m. Each candidate will be allowed three minutes for opening remarks at the podium, followed by pre-determined questions posed by the moderator with each candidate being given one minute to respond. The audience will be allowed to ask questions for 20 minutes at each session before the candidates offer their two-minute closing statements.

“This is a rare opportunity to see the gubernatorial candidates debate in a neutral and non-partisan forum. It also provides a venue for the public to engage directly with candidates by posing their own questions,” said Keith Dougherty, associate professor of political science and faculty adviser for Pi Sigma Alpha.

Confirmed participants at this time include: Republicans Karen Handel, Ray McBerry, Jeff Chapman and Austin Scott; and Democrats Carl Camon, Dubose Porter and David Poythress.
