The University of Georgia Holiday Concerts are a cherished tradition of the Athens community. "The joyful choral and orchestral music we bring to the halls each year—much of it known and familiar—rekindles the cheer and goodwill we all feel around the holidays," said Dale Monson, director of the UGA Hugh Hodgson School of Music.

Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Holiday Concert, an annual Athens tradition, will come to the Classic Center Theatre for the first time Dec. 3 at 8 p.m.

The concert brings together nearly 300 student singers and instrumentalists from the UGA Symphony Orchestra, Bulldog Brass Society and choral ensembles. Led by Hugh Hodgson School of Music professors Daniel Bara and Mark Cedel, the performance will feature a variety of seasonal selections.

"Given the size and popularity of this event, we felt it would be appropriate to bring the Holiday Concert to a larger venue in the heart of downtown Athens," said Dale Monson, director of the Hodgson School. "The uplifting and joyful music of this special time of year inspires the goodwill felt throughout the community each season."

Tickets for the program, part of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music's Second Thursday Scholarship Concert Series, are $25 for the general public and $5 for students. For tickets, call 706-542-4400 or see www.uga.edu/pac.

The 2013 Holiday Concert is sponsored by Dr. Bill Barstow, Dolly Barstow and Henry and Sandra O'Pry of Southeastern Color Lithographers.

Established in 1980, the Second Thursday Scholarship Series offers showcase performances by UGA students and faculty the second Thursday of each month throughout the academic year. Proceeds from individual ticket sales and season subscriptions help fund year-long academic scholarships and assistantships for students and present donors the opportunity to sponsor individual students of the music school at several levels of giving.

After the winter break, the series will continue Jan. 9 at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Hall as Distinguished Professor of Piano Evgeny Rivkin takes the stage for an evening of classical and romantic selections.
