Levenson named interim director of UGA Performing Arts Center

Athens, Ga. – David S. Levenson has been appointed interim director of the University of Georgia’s Performing Arts Center. His appointment, by Arnett C. Mace Jr., senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, is effective Sept. 1.

Levenson succeeds director Timothy A. Bartholow who is transferring to the Terry College of Business to teach in the music business program. The university will conduct a national search in 2009 to find a permanent director for the Performing Arts Center.

“I am pleased that David was willing to serve as the interim director. He brings experience to the position essential to the continuing contributions of the Performing Arts Center,” Mace said. “I also wish to thank Tim for his contributions over the years as director.”

In accepting the appointment, Levenson said, “Our staff has done an outstanding job of making the Performing Arts Center a valuable cultural asset to the university and the community, and I am proud to continue the fine work of this office as we begin our 13th season of world-class presentations.”

Levenson came to UGA in 1997 as general manager of the newly opened Performing Arts Center and has served in that capacity for the past 11 years.

Levenson was born, raised, and educated in Boston where he graduated from Boston University. He has spent his entire career on the staffs of major arts organizations including the orchestras of Boston, Baltimore, Cleveland, and New Orleans, and he has worked for Asolo State Theatre in Florida, ICM Artists in New York, and the Brooklyn College Arts Series.
