Media advisory: UGA to host seminar on peace-building and reintegration of the Korean Peninsula

Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Center for the Study of Global Issues will host an international Track-II private diplomacy seminar Oct. 17-20. The meeting will include policymakers and academics from the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea, the Republic of Korea and the United States.
The event is an informal, unofficial, off-the-record dialogue designed to address issues among the three countries. Primary issues to be discussed include tension reduction on the Korean Peninsula, North Korean-South Korean relations and North Korean-U.S. relations. Specifically, attendees will consider nuclear proliferation, military tensions on the Yellow Sea and the precarious state of armistice on the peninsula.
The seminar is designed to help the three parties work toward positive changes in their interactions.
The Center for the Study of Global Issues, or Globis, has hosted similar seminars in the past. Directed by UGA professor of international affairs Han S. Park, Globis fosters educational and research activities focused on economic, political and sociocultural change and development occurring at the global level.
The only meetings accessible to the public and the media are the opening session Oct. 17 at 9:30 a.m. in the Classic Center and the closing session Oct. 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the UGA Chapel.
For media planning to cover these events, media check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. both days. All registered media will be issued color-coded name badges at registration.
A newsroom will be available for media throughout the seminar.
Media will need to provide the following information to globis@uga.edu at least 12 hours in advance for non-camera personnel and 24 hours in advance for camera crews:
• Name of media outlet
• Name(s) of reporter/camera crew
• Space needed for camera setup or podium access
