National environmental activist to speak at UGA Odum School

Athens, Ga. – Environmental activist Scott Seydel, will speak on “The Founding of Global Green,” the national non-profit organization where he serves as board chairman, on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. The event is open to the public and will take place in the University of Georgia Odum School of Ecology seminar room. Seating is limited.

Seydel will discuss his years of work in green causes and issues, which have earned him national acclaim. In addition to serving as board chair at Global Green, he is chief executive of The Seydel Companies and PetRock LLC, where he has earned national recognition from a variety of plastics organizations for recycling and resource conservation research. He also serves on a variety of boards committed to sustainable packaging and recycling.

“Scott Seydel is a leader in merging smart business economics with environmental change,” said John Gittleman, dean of the Odum School. “It’s an honor for the Odum School to host such an influential voice for the future-all students, faculty and citizens will learn something important from Scott, both in how we think about our own impact on the environment as well as what we can do as a culture to save the planet.”

With roots that date back to the 1950s, the UGA Odum School of Ecology offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as a certification program. Founder Eugene P. Odum is recognized internationally as a pioneer of ecosystem ecology. The school is ranked tenth by U.S. News and World Report for its graduate program.
