UGA Alumni Association taking nominations for Bulldog 100

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Alumni Association is collecting nominations for the second annual Bulldog 100, a program created in 2009 to spotlight fast-growing businesses owned or operated by UGA alumni.

Nominations are being taken now through June 30. For information about entering a business, see www.uga.edu/alumni/bulldog100. The 100 fastest-growing companies will be announced in October and the rankings will be revealed at a banquet in early 2011 in Atlanta.

For the inaugural Bulldog 100, there were more than 400 nominations. Hitson Land and Timber Management in Port Orange, Fla., was ranked the fastest-growing business with a three-year growth rate of 372 percent. Owner Greg Hitson received a bachelor’s degree in forest resources in 1994 from UGA.

To be considered in the program, an organization must have been in business for at least five years, have revenues of $100,000 or more for the 2007 calendar year, and be owned or operated by a former UGA student. The program will recognize the fastest-growing businesses regardless of size by focusing on a three-year growth rate average.

The Atlanta CPA firm Gifford, Hillegass and Ingwersen LLC has partnered with the UGA Alumni Association to verify the revenues for each nominated business and rank each nominated company by growth rate.
