Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Performing Arts Center will present the Luther College Nordic Choir Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall. The program will feature a cappella performances of "A Spotless Rose" by Paul Mealor and "Go Lovely Rose" by Eric Whitacre, along with spirituals and classic works.

Founded in 1946, the 78-member Nordic Choir has an international reputation as one of the premier collegiate choirs in the U.S. The choir is conducted by Allen Hightower, director of choral activities and professor of music at Luther College.

Luther is in Decorah, Iowa, and is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the world with six choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and numerous chamber ensembles, totaling nearly 1,000 student musicians.

The Nordic Choir tours annually and has performed around the world, appearing in Norway, Ireland, England, Germany, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Baltic countries, Mexico and the Caribbean. The choir regularly performs nationally in well-known venues such as Lincoln Center in New York City and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
