Photography of UGA professor emeritus Sally Ross featured in Aderhold Hall

Athens, Ga. – Photographs by Sally Hudson Ross, a professor emeritus of the University of Georgia College of Education’s department of language and literacy education, are currently on exhibit in Room 232 of Aderhold Hall through Sept. 30.

The exhibit, entitled Home and Away, features 25 pieces photographed in Georgia and abroad with locations including Italy, England and Scotland.

Ross’s photography emerges both from her travels as well as from her passion for bringing new life to familiar locations near home in Athens, Oconee County and across Georgia.

“I love the adventure of walking freely outdoors, and I crave powerful and unique light,” she says. “With my camera, I savor and record forever the experience: the feelings, colors, textures and shapes that somehow combine to bring peace.”As a result, Ross says she can appreciate this world and her life even more.

Ross, who retired from UGA in 2004, was a COE faculty member for 17 years, and before that was a public school educator for 10 years. Her work was noted for a deep commitment to public service and outreach in the field of English education, which resulted in her receiving UGA’s Walter B. Hill Award in 1999.

Ross’s work has appeared in juried exhibitions, galleries and public art spaces across Georgia. She was a featured artist in the February 2010 issue of Southern Distinction Magazine.
