Athens, Ga. - Chris Cummiskey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, will deliver the keynote address at the 22nd Public Service and Outreach Annual Meeting on April 15 at 10:30 a.m. in Mahler Hall at the University of Georgia Hotel and Conference Center. His presentation will focus on higher education's role in economic development.

As commissioner, Cummiskey leads the agency responsible for bringing jobs and investment to Georgia through job creation and expansion and by increasing tourism in the state. He also oversees the state's work to grow international trade, the entertainment industry and small businesses and entrepreneurship in Georgia.

The commissioner and his team have spearheaded efforts bringing Georgia more than 500 company locations or expansions, including Baxter International and Caterpillar, which together account for $1.5 billion in investment and 3,200 new jobs. Prior to his role as commissioner, Cummiskey served as the senior director for Sen. Johnny Isakson and former Georgia House Speaker Glenn Richardson and as director of state relations at UGA.

Cummiskey's address is part of the Public Service and Outreach Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon that begins at 9 a.m. This event is open to the public. The registration fee is $35. For more information or to register, see http://outreach.uga.edu/register.
