Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Student Alumni Association will host Senior Send-Off May 7 from 5-7 p.m. on the Tate Student Center Plaza during which the Class of 2014 Senior Signature plaque will be unveiled.

The free gathering is for graduating students and will feature food, music, giveaways and a 20 percent discount at the UGA Bookstore. The first 400 attendees who update their contact information with the university during the event will receive an official UGA alumni T-shirt. Representatives from various schools, colleges and alumni groups will be on hand to answer questions about staying connected to UGA after graduation.

This year, 1,264 graduating students participated in the Student Alumni Association's Senior Signature fundraising campaign, which gives graduating students the opportunity to donate to a school, college, department or scholarship on campus that has significantly impacted their collegiate experience and in turn have their names included on the class plaque on display in the Tate Student Center Plaza.

This year, the Senior Signature campaign raised more than $63,000-the fourth-highest total in Senior Signature history.

The senior giving concept stems from a student-led fundraising effort that began in 1920 that featured donor names on a plaque on campus. With a minimum $50 Senior Signature gift, $20 supports the Georgia Fund, which funds Alumni Association programming and critical areas such as scholarships, endowed professorships, graduate fellowships and international study. An estimated $25,000 of this year's Senior Signature total was designated to the Georgia Fund. The remaining amount may be directed to the student's choice of school, college, department or scholarship on campus.

Attendees to Senior Send-Off are encouraged to use #uga14 in their tweets and Instagram photos during the event and other commencement-related activities.
