Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art will present an opening reception for an exhibition by 2012-13 Photography Fellow Kelly Kristin Jones Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. The exhibition, titled "The Sorority Girl Project," will be in gallery 101 of the school of art.

The reception is free and open to the public.

"The Sorority Girl Project" is a new body of work created by Jones since her arrival at UGA in the fall of 2012. The 12 photos document female students involved in Greek life on the Athens campus.

"The sorority subculture was completely new to me, and I have found it infinitely interesting," said Jones, who received her master of fine arts in spring 2012 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. "More than being a critique or investigation of the Southern college sorority girl, the project is really about the gaze and their performance for the camera."

Jones' exhibition will consist of 30-by-40 inch color pigment prints, which she describes as a play on formal portraiture.

The Post-MFA Photography Fellow is a one-year teaching and research position targeted to bring recent MFA graduates, their ideas and perspectives, into the dialogue of the programs of the Lamar Dodd School of Art. The fellow teaches two classes each semester and conducts research, developing new work that is presented in an exhibition and public lecture during the spring semester.

Jones is the third Post-MFA Photography Fellow in the school of art.
