Annual Southern Garden Heritage Conference to celebrate heirloom fruits and vegetables

Athens, Ga. - The State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia will hold the 2013 Southern Garden Heritage Conference Feb. 15 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Callaway Building Auditorium. The focus is on "Gardening with Heirloom Fruits and Vegetables."
The conference is intended for gardeners, landscape architects, preservationists and plant lovers of all levels of expertise. Cost is $105 and includes lunch. Landscape architects can receive continuing education credits by attending.
Presentations at the conference cover topics include "Georgia's Agrarian History," "Heirloom Gardens and Landscapes of the South," "Great Sources for Heirloom Plants," a "Historical Overview of Blueberries in Georgia," and "Hyde Farm: Continuing Local Agriculture along the Chattahoochee River." This year's featured speakers are William C. Welch, author of "Heirloom Gardening in the South" and Felder Rushing, author of "Slow Gardening: A No-Stress Philosophy for All Senses and All Seasons."
