Athens, Ga. - University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams released the following statement today on the passing of former Georgia House Speaker Thomas B. Murphy.

"While most of today's students probably did not know him, few people have had a more positive impact on the quality of their education than Speaker Murphy. He loved the Bulldogs and had a regular seat in the president's box for many years. He helped fund many significant facilities across the campus and was always receptive to pleas for assistance. He was truly a great Georgian and a great alumnus of the University of Georgia and will be missed by all of us."
