Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Student Government Association will dedicate a ten-foot cypress oar dubbed "The Okefenokee Oar" on April 30 at 2:30 p.m. in the Tate Student Center.

The "Okefenokee Oar" was crafted by the Student Government Association at the University of Florida to initiate a friendly competition with their counterpart at UGA. Each year, the oar is to be displayed at the institution that wins the Georgia-Florida football game. Georgia's 24-20 win over the Gators last fall has brought the oar to campus for the first time.

The oar will be housed in a wooden and glass cabinet located in the concourse of the Tate Student Center. The dedication is open to the campus community.

For more information about the Student Government Association, call 706/542-6396 or see http://sga.uga.edu.

The Student Government Association is a registered student organization within UGA's Division of Student Affairs.
