Media Advisory: Update of UGA 50th anniversary events for Jan. 11

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia is observing the 50th anniversary of its desegregation this week. However, due to inclement weather, there have been some changes in the schedule of events for Tuesday, Jan. 11.

In My Place: An Intimate Conversation with Charlayne Hunter-Gault, has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

A Dialogue with Poet, Author and Activist Sonia Sanchez will be relocated to the Magnolia Ballroom in the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. The 2 p.m. talk will be moderated by Valerie Boyd, the Charlayne Hunter-Gault Writer-in-Residence, and will feature poet Reginald McKnight, who holds the Hamilton Holmes Professorship in English. A reception and book-signing will follow.

Chronicling UGA’s Desegregation-a panel discussion with UGA faculty authors Maurice Daniels, Robert Pratt and Thomas Dyer, Robert Cohen of New York University, and Calvin Trillin (who will participate via conference call)-will be relocated to the Magnolia Ballroom in the Georgia Center at 4:30 p.m. A reception and book-signing will follow.
