UGA Alumni Association to host inaugural Commencement Celebration

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Alumni Association is celebrating soon-to-be graduates with events May 8 and May 10 as part of its inaugural Commencement Celebration.

On May 8, a Commencement Celebration will be held from 5-7 p.m. the Tate Student Center Plaza where there will be complimentary food and refreshments. The celebration also will include music, entertainment and performances by various student groups. Guests including Hairy Dawg will be in attendance to congratulate graduates.

The event will feature giveaways and prizes. The first 250 seniors at the event will take home a gift from the alumni association and the first 200 will receive the official UGA Alumni T-shirt.
Representatives from the university will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about staying connected to UGA following graduation.

The University of Georgia Bookstore, directly adjacent to Tate Plaza, is offering a 20 percent discount on clothing and gifts to the upcoming graduates from 5-7 p.m.

Also at the event, the Class of 2013 Senior Signature plaque will be unveiled and seniors can take pictures next to their name on the plaque. Senior Signature is a program in which graduating seniors are invited to make their first official gift to the university. In recognition of their donation, their names are placed on permanent plaques on the Tate Student Center Plaza.

On May 10, the day of Commencement, a photographer will be available from 1-3 p.m. for new graduates taking photographs at the Arch and by the Chapel Bell. The photos will be available for free download from the UGA Alumni Association website, www.alumni.uga.edu.

The alumni association will be on hand from approximately 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. to welcome graduates and their families to North Campus and to provide snacks and water for those waiting in line to take pictures.

UGA seniors are invited to use the hashtags #UGAGradParty and #ugaclassof2013 when posting photos to Twitter and Instagram.
