Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia Army ROTC Alumni will hold their second annual charity golf tournament April 19 at noon at the UGA Golf Course.

Proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the ROTC Alumni Scholarship Fund, which was created in honor and memory of fallen UGA Army ROTC alumni, like 1st Lt. Noah Harris and 1st Lt. Ashley Henderson-Huff, who both died from injuries sustained in the line of duty.

The event will include a 4-person scramble, box lunch and awards reception. Three mulligans are available for $15. Golf contests at the tournament include Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and Longest Putt and are $10 each to enter. A Best Golf Outfit contest will also be held. In addition, the tournament will have a $50,000 shootout and prizes including trips, cars, golf clubs and Apple products for holes-in-one on course Par-3s, as well as a prize raffle and silent auction.

Registration, which starts at $100 per player, is available at http://www.golfdigestplanner.com/22816-BulldogArmyROTC/. Participants also may register the day of the event starting at 10 a.m. and by mail to UGA Army ROTC, ATTN: Kevin Fracassa, Milledge Building, 265 Baldwin St., Athens, Ga. 30602.

Registration includes the green and cart fees, range balls, beverages and a gift bag. Online registration includes a one-year subscription to Golf Digest, a $10 value.

"This golf tournament, along with our 5k run in the fall, is our biggest fundraising event of the entire year," said Lt. Col. Kurt Felpel, commander of the Bulldog Battalion and an adjunct professor of military science. "The UGA Army ROTC continues to build up funds and raise the money necessary to award deserving cadets with scholarships in honor of fallen ROTC alumni. This golf tournament is a great way for businesses, individuals and alumni to donate money for a great cause and come out for a great day of golf at a fantastic venue."

UGA Bulldog Battalion
A unit of the UGA Office of the Vice President for Instruction, Bulldog Battalion is one of the oldest ROTC programs in the nation. While a military-educated presence has been evident since the establishment of classes on the UGA campus in 1801, Army ROTC became official on June 30, 1919. More than 20 U.S. generals began their military careers with the Bulldog Battalion. For more information, see armyrotc.uga.edu.
