Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia College of Education will offer a workshop on social network theories and methods May 3-4 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

"Social Network Theories and Methods" will introduce participants to the basic concepts, theories and models of social network analysis. Participants will learn how to define and apply these models in their own settings. The focus is on theoretical model development, which can inform the design of studies, measures and analysis. The course also will introduce basic software for estimating the models and representing network data, along with a range of social network resources.

Participants should have one year of applied statistics so they are comfortable with the general linear model (regression and ANOVA) and analysis of 2x2 tables. Participants need to bring a laptop computer to the workshop.

Kenneth Frank, a professor in measurement and quantitative methods and fisheries and wildlife at Michigan State University, will lead the workshop. His areas of interest focus on social network analysis, causal inference and multi-level models.

Registration is $375 per participant and includes workshop materials, refreshment breaks and lunch each day. The deadline to register is April 19. To register online or for more information, see www.coe.uga.edu/events/category/institute-workshop/.
