Athens, Ga. - The University of Georgia will compete in the 2011 RecycleMania Tournament hosted by the College and University Recycling Council, Keep America Beautiful and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise Program. RecycleMania is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their campus communities.

The RecycleMania kick-off event will be held Monday, Feb. 7, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Tate Student Center Plaza. Additional events will be held throughout the 10-week period such as a "Recyclympics" competition between dormitories, recycling bin distribution to offices, clean out your files week during March 14-18, and a Student Learning Center waste audit on Tate center north lawn on March 30, from 11 a.m. -
2 p.m.

Over a 10-week period, campuses compete in different contests to see which institution can either collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or achieve the highest recycling rate. The main goal of RecycleMania is to increase student awareness of campus recycling and waste minimization.

For more information regarding RecycleMania please visit the UGA RecycleMania Facebook and Twitter pages, or see http://www.sustainability.uga.edu/.

The primary function of the UGA Office of Sustainability is to coordinate, communicate and advance sustainability initiatives in academics, research, public service and outreach, student engagement and campus operations at the University of Georgia.
