UGA department of dance presents Young Choreographer's Series

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia department of dance Young Choreographer’s Series concert, Informal Showing, will be held Dec. 3-4 at 8 p.m. at the New Dance Theater in the Dance Building on Sanford Drive. The event will premiere choreographic works prepared by eight undergraduates during the fall semester to fulfill their dance degree requirements.

The Young Choreographer’s Series offers student choreographed, designed, stage-managed and publicized studio dance productions. Several YCS pieces have gone on to festivals of the American College Dance Festival Association. Each year a YCS choreographer or dancer is awarded a scholarship towards summer study at any of the premier summer dance workshops.

“The Informal Showing is a culmination of a newly revised course for second and third year dance majors, Young Choreographer’s Lab,” said associate professor of dance and YCS faculty advisor Rebecca Enghauser. “Here, students begin to investigate their own choreographic voices by developing and manipulating inspired movements which then fuel the translation of ideas into a cohesive, aesthetic whole.”

General admission tickets to the performances are $5 for students/seniors and $7 for adults and can be purchased at the Tate Student Center ticket counter. Tickets are available Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for purchase with cash, personal check, Bulldog Bucks or major credit card. They are also available at the door before each performance beginning at 7 p.m. Credit cards are not accepted at the door.

The event is sponsored by the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the department of dance.
